Tennessee Firefighting Commission Approved

This course is based on NFPA 1021 "Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications" and may lead to a ProBoard certification. The Tennessee Fire Officer 1 course identifies the requirements necessary to perform the duties of a first line supervisor. This course introduces the student to the basic concepts of management and supervision by concentration on such topics as: organizational structure, communication skills, human resource management, public relations, planning, emergency service delivery and safety.

The Tennessee Fire Officer 2 course is designed for the fire officer who is ready to assume more of a leadership role by moving into the middle management level of his/her department. This course expands on the knowledge base attained in Fire Officer I by revisiting some of the same subjects and adding additional material including management, government structure, and departmental budget planning and management.

The Tennessee Fire Officer 3 course is specialized for the chief officer who is ready to advance into the upper management level of his/her department. This course consists of subjects designed to give the officer more knowledge of management and administration so that he/she can make basic evaluations of employee relations and assume a more proactive role in his/her department. This is a project-based class.

This course is based on NFPA 1521, "Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer", and may lead to a ProBoard certification. The Tennessee Fire Department Incident Safety Officer course is intended for the member within a fire department or emergency service organization who performs the functions of an incident safety officer or who serves as an assistant to the incident safety officer.

Candidates will learn how to use prepared lesson plans to deliver instructions effectively, including the use of instructional aids and evaluation instruments. They will also learn how to adapt lesson plans to meet the unique requirements of the students and the responsible jurisdiction; how to optimize the learning experience by organizing the learning environment; and how to ensure compliance with the record-keeping requirements of the responsible jurisdiction.
